I'm very excited: I have finally produced a landscape that looks halfways decent in my eyes :). I know that I've been away for a while - exams and then work somewhat ate my life for a little bit, and will continue to do so for a while yet, but I still managed to sneak in some time for painting. I am amazed at how much colour one can produce with only black ink - this will require some future meditation, methinks. Speaking of colour, I know that I promised a piece in colour, and I am meditating on said piece even as I am writing this - who knows, I might even paint it before the end of the summer :P

On a fairly unrelated note, I was contacted by the APW gallery in New York to submit some work into a show they are holding - imagine my utter excitement when I first read this, and then my utter dismay when I learned exactly what a vanity gallery is and why APW is one. Note that this gallery is not a scam, not in the true sense of the word (there is actually a gallery, and they will actually show work submitted), but you don't need to have any talent to get in, only the ability to pay the entry fee (which in this case was only 50 bucks, but as a student, that's 50 I don't have to send to a gallery that then has no incentive to truly display my work - they've made their money already from me and the other artists who submitted). I'm not painting to make money, I'm painting because I love it - as such, I am not particularly worried about getting public exposure, though of course I love attention as much as the next person :) (just not enough to spend 50$ to get into a show that will be ignored by anyone in the art community, as far as I can tell).

I'm a biology and philosophy student at the University of King's College with an interest in choral singing (I sing counter-tenor primarily, but fill in as a pinch tenor/baritone when needed), swing dancing (mostly Lindy, although I do enjoy a good Charleston now and then), and, recently, Chinese painting. I've been practicing Qigong now for almost a year, and I find that the painting is a strong extension of the Qi exercises. Thanks for stopping by and seeing my work – feel free to leave any comments, constructive criticism, or just say hi!
:)
